Yes, you read it right, we are a father and daughter pair passionate about parenting and raising resilient kids. Although we do have a great relationship, there have been many mistakes (and repair) along the way. We are both certified through Positive Discipline as Parent Educators and have a deep love of empowering others. We use this framework with the background of our own relationship to teach workshops.
Mali is the creator of Flowing Connections Counseling and Capable Kid and a Licensed Professional Counselor. Her passion for supporting parents started when she noticed a need for parenting support in the Treasure Valley during her graduate program while working with kids and parents. She pitched her dream to her dad while reflecting on her own experience as his parenting was similar to the Positive Discipline approach. His immediate response was "I believe in this, how can I help?"
Buck grew up in the cattle country of southwestern Idaho. He helped his parents run a family owned cattle business before going off to college, then inevitably starting his own business. Buck has run hundreds (if not thousands of workshops) and has dedicated his career to helping people build life skills as adults. Buck is passionate about financial literacy and teaching parents how to teach their kids about money.
At the core of our philosophy is the belief that children are capable and resilient. We focus on teaching life skills like problem-solving, emotional regulation, and decision-making to help children grow into confident, self-sufficient adults. Instead of punishment, we see mistakes as learning opportunities, helping kids build resilience and navigate challenges with confidence.
We believe a strong, trusting connection between parent and child is key to healthy development. When children feel secure, they are more likely to take risks, learn from mistakes, and grow. Our connection-based approach creates a safe space for children to explore, ask questions, and develop a positive self-image, fostering trust in themselves and others. This bond strengthens their emotional resilience and ability to navigate the world.
Our approach is rooted in Positive Discipline, which emphasizes mutual respect and guidance over punishment. We believe children are developing beliefs about themselves and the world, and through connection and empathy, we help them form healthy perspectives. By using mistakes as learning opportunities instead of punishing for compliance, we foster emotional intelligence, respect, and personal responsibility, setting children up to thrive in their relationships and life.
